Who an overnight Surin trip is really for

Here is the counter conversation we have with everyone weighing this trip. The single day trip to the Surin Islands works, but it is a lot of boat for a few hours in the water. Staying a night flips that around: you cross once, sleep on the island, and wake up already out at the reef with the whole park to yourself before the day boats arrive. For people who genuinely love snorkelling, that morning is the payoff.

But be honest with yourself about the accommodation. You stay in Surin Islands National Park lodging on the island — simple park bungalows or tents, not a resort. It is clean and it does the job, but do not expect air-conditioning, room service or a soft mattress. The people who adore this trip are those who value the reef and the remoteness over comfort. If a rustic night sounds like a chore rather than an adventure, the single-day trip may suit you better, and that is fine.

What does the two days look like?

The published SeaStar itinerary runs like this (times may shift with weather and tide):

Day 1

  • 08:00 — Check in and collect your snorkelling gear.
  • 09:00 — Depart Namkhem pier for the Surin Islands by speedboat.
  • 10:20 — Arrive at Surin Islands National Park. Snorkel at Chong Kad Channel, then visit the Moken sea-gypsy village, or relax on Mai Ngam beach.
  • 12:00 — Lunch in the national park canteen with drinks and seasonal Thai fruit.
  • 13:30 — Meet your guide, check in to your accommodation, then relax on Mai Ngam beach.
  • 16:30 — Meet at the ‘200 metres meeting point’. Hike to Kra Ting bay for the sunset, or free time on Mai Ngam beach.
  • 19:00 — Dinner provided by the national park, then relax at your accommodation.

Day 2

  • 08:00 — Breakfast at the national park canteen.
  • 09:00 — Swim and snorkel at Mai Ngam beach, then prepare for departure.
  • 12:00 — Lunch at the national park canteen.
  • 13:30 — Snorkel at Bon Bay or Mae Yai Bay, then Pineapple Bay or Tao Bay for coral and colourful fish.
  • 15:30 — Depart the Surin Islands.
  • 17:00 — Arrive at Namkhem pier and transfer to your accommodation.

The programme is subject to change without notice according to weather and tide conditions.

Is this trip right for you?

It suits keen snorkellers, couples and easygoing travellers who want more reef time and a genuine off-grid night, and who are relaxed about basic accommodation. Families comfortable in the water and with camping-style nights enjoy it too.

It is not the trip for anyone who needs resort comforts, is badly prone to seasickness on the long crossing, or wants a fixed high standard of lodging. Note too that Surin Islands National Park normally closes during the monsoon, roughly mid-May to mid-October, so this trip only runs in the open season — ask us to confirm this season’s dates.

When should you go, and what should you bring?

Go in the open season (roughly mid-October to mid-May) for the calmest crossings and clearest water. Pack light but bring what an island night needs: swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, a dry bag, a light layer for the crossing and cooler evening, insect repellent, a small torch, any personal toiletries and medication, and motion-sickness tablets taken before boarding. Bring cash for any extras, as there are no shops out there.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you stay overnight?

You stay in Surin Islands National Park accommodation on the island — simple park bungalows or tents, clean but basic, without resort facilities. Message us for the current lodging details.

Why stay overnight instead of a day trip?

You cross the open sea once instead of twice and wake up already at the reef, so you snorkel the quiet early morning before the day boats arrive. It suits people who really love snorkelling.

When is the Surin Islands season?

The national park normally closes during the monsoon, roughly mid-May to mid-October, so trips run in the open season only. Contact us to confirm this season’s exact dates.

Is it comfortable for someone who dislikes basic accommodation?

Honestly, no. The island lodging is simple. If you need resort comforts, the single-day trip may suit you better. Tell us your preferences and we will advise.

How do I get the price and book?

Message us on WhatsApp at +66 93 687 1999 for today’s price. Prices in Phuket change daily and vary by transfer area, so we quote live and confirm exactly what is included.
