Racha & Kahung Beach (Coral Island) by Sailing Yacht Catamaran – Nikorn Marine

Racha & Kahung Beach (Coral Island) by Sailing Yacht Catamaran - Nikorn Marine

The Racha & Kahung Beach sailing yacht catamaran tour by Nikorn Marine departs Chalong Pier, Phuket, around 08.30 and spends the whole day cruising to Kahung Beach on Coral Island and on to Racha Island, sailing home into the sunset at about 18.30. It is the slow-travel version of the classic two-island trip, arranged by our TAT-licensed family agency at Chalong Circle.

Why choose a sailing catamaran over a speedboat?

Speedboats get you there fast; catamarans make the getting-there part of the holiday. A twin-hull sailing yacht barely rolls, so guests who dread seasickness — and we meet plenty across our counter — consistently do better on this boat than on any speedboat. There is shade, space to stretch out, and no engine roar drowning out conversation.

The other difference is the ending. Speedboat trips are back in port by late afternoon. This one sails home as the sun drops over the Andaman Sea, and arriving at Chalong Pier at 18.30 after a sunset on deck is the part guests talk about most.

What will you actually do on board?

  • 08.30: Hotel pickup and transfer to Nikorn Marine’s office at Chalong Pier.
  • Sail from Chalong to Kahung Beach on Coral Island.
  • Snorkel, swim and relax on the white-sand beach, or add sea activities such as parasailing, banana boat, scuba, sea walker, clear kayak or paddle board (extra charge, paid on the island).
  • Thai lunch at Kahung Restaurant.
  • Cruise on to Racha Island for the clearest snorkeling of the day — coral gardens and shoals of colorful fish.
  • Sail back toward Phuket with sunset views on deck.
  • 18.30: Arrive at Chalong Pier and transfer to your hotel.

Is this tour right for you?

We recommend it for couples, honeymooners, anyone prone to motion sickness, and travelers who see the boat as the point rather than the taxi. It is a ten-hour day, so it suits people happy to settle into island time.

If your priority is maximum beach hours with minimum boat hours, take the speedboat version of this same route instead. If you only want the sunset-sail experience without the full-day commitment, look at the afternoon Kahung Beach and Promthep Cape sunset cruise.

What should you bring?

Swimwear, a towel, a light jacket or sarong for the breezy sail home, sunscreen, and a hat that will not fly off. Bring a dry bag for your phone — you will want it out for the sunset. The catamaran is stable, but if you are very sensitive to motion a travel tablet before departure costs little and guarantees your day.

Honest advice from our counter in Chalong

Book this boat for the day you want to slow down, not the day you want to tick off islands. In the green season (May to October) the afternoon sea can pick up; a sailing catamaran handles it far more gracefully than a speedboat, which is exactly when this trip earns its keep. November to April gives you the calmest water and the most reliable sunsets.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get seasick on the catamaran?

A twin-hull sailing catamaran is the most stable boat type doing this route, and this trip is our usual recommendation for guests worried about seasickness. If you are very sensitive, take a travel tablet 30 minutes before departure as insurance.

How is this different from the speedboat tour to the same islands?

Same islands, opposite rhythm. The speedboat maximizes time on land and returns mid-afternoon; the catamaran makes the cruising part of the experience and sails home through sunset, arriving around 18.30.

Is lunch included?

Yes, a Thai lunch is served at Kahung Restaurant on Coral Island. Sea activities such as parasailing, banana boat, scuba and sea walker are optional extras paid on the island.

How long is the whole trip?

Roughly ten hours door to door: pickup around 08.30 and return to Chalong Pier at about 18.30, plus your hotel transfer.
