The James Bond – Phang Nga Bay by Big Boat tour with Amazing Canoeing Tours is a full-day cruise from Ao Po Pier, Phuket (hotel pickup 07:00, return 16:30) aboard a large boat operating since 2007: guided canoeing at Panak and Hong Islands, a buffet lunch served on board while cruising to Khao Phing Kan (James Bond Island), and swimming or canoeing at Nakae Island — arranged by Chang Thai Tour & Travel, TAT-licensed in Chalong.

Big boat or speedboat — which should you choose?
This is the conversation we have most in our Chalong shop, so here is the honest version. A big boat gives you room to walk around, shade, proper toilets, and a stable deck — the difference matters over a seven-hour day, especially for grandparents, small children and anyone nervous on the water. Phang Nga Bay is already the calmest water around Phuket; put a big hull on it and the ride becomes almost motionless. Seasickness on this route is about as unlikely as it gets in Thailand.
What you trade away is speed and the option of extra beach stops. If you would rather zip between more islands, the same operator runs the James Bond speedboat version with an identical canoeing focus.
What does the day look like?
- 07:00 — Pickup from your hotel and transfer to Ao Po Pier.
- 09:00 — Check-in with a small snack on board.
- 09:30 — Cruise into Phang Nga Bay National Park on the operator’s flagship big boat — running this route since 2007 and awarded Tripadvisor’s “Best of the Best 2022”:
- Panak Island — sightseeing and canoeing with paddle staff who guide you through a splendid cave system and mangrove forest.
- Hong Island — canoe with a paddle guide into a complete, self-contained ecosystem of caves and an inner lagoon.
- Lunch on board — a varied buffet tailored to all dietary needs, served while the boat cruises toward James Bond Island. No restaurant queue, no rushing.
- James Bond Island — Khao Phing Kan and the 20-metre Ko Tapu islet from The Man with the Golden Gun (1974).
- Nakae Island — swim from the beach or take a final fun canoe ride.
- 16:30 — Return to Ao Po Pier and transfer to your hotel.
Why do we recommend this one for mixed-age groups?
Because nobody gets left out. The canoeing is guide-paddled, so a seven-year-old and a seventy-year-old get the same cave experience; the deck gives tired legs somewhere comfortable to rest between stops; and lunch on board means no herding the family through a crowded island restaurant. Guests tell us this is the trip where the grandparents enjoyed the caves as much as the kids.
Is this tour right for you?
Pick the big boat for comfort, stability and a relaxed rhythm with serious canoe time. It is not the choice if you want Koh Panyee floating village on your itinerary — this program lunches on board instead. If the stilt village matters to you, look at the See Sea Blue James Bond tour, which includes it.

What should you bring?
Swimwear, towel, sunscreen, hat and a dry bag for the canoe sections. The boat has shade, but the canoes do not — a long-sleeve rash guard earns its keep. Bring small cash for the national park fee, collected separately on the day; ask us on WhatsApp for the current amount.

Frequently asked questions
Is the big boat better for people who get seasick?
Yes — it is the steadiest way to see Phang Nga Bay. The bay is sheltered water to begin with, and a large hull barely registers what little movement there is.
Where is lunch served on this tour?
On board: a varied buffet tailored to all dietary needs, served while the boat cruises toward James Bond Island. This program does not stop at Koh Panyee village.
Do children and seniors manage the canoeing?
Comfortably. Paddle staff do the paddling at both Panak and Hong Islands, so all ages get the same cave-and-lagoon experience without effort.
How long has this operator been running?
The big-boat tour has operated since 2007 and was awarded Tripadvisor’s “Best of the Best” in 2022.
