to Railay and Tonsai in Krabi — sheer golden limestone cliffs rising straight out of the sea, among the most
celebrated sport-climbing spots in the world. Many routes are bolted for sport climbing, and the setting, with the beach at
the base of the wall, is unforgettable. Day trips combine the boat transfer, a guide and all the gear.

Beginner or experienced — what suits you?

Here is how we match guests. If you have never climbed, book a guided beginner session: instructors fix the
ropes (top-roping), fit your harness and shoes, and coach you up easy routes — no strength or experience needed, and it is far
more about technique and nerve than muscle. Kids and nervous first-timers do brilliantly. If you are an experienced
climber, guides can take you to harder graded routes and arrange gear, and Railay has enough to keep you busy for days. An
indoor wall is the perfect warm-up, a rainy-day option, or a taster before committing to a cliff.

Is it right for you, and how fit do you need to be?

Beginners are often surprised how accessible it is — you do not need to be strong or slim, and there is no shame in resting
on the rope. A reasonable comfort with heights helps, but plenty of people conquer a mild fear here in a supported, roped setting. It
is not ideal if you have serious shoulder, elbow or finger injuries. Children can usually climb with the right harness — tell
us their ages.

When to go and what to bring?

Outdoor climbing is best in the dry season (November to April), when the rock is dry and grippy; wet limestone is
slippery and some green-season days get called off, so we build in flexibility. Climb in the cooler morning to avoid the heat on the
rock. Bring athletic clothes you can move in, closed athletic shoes for the approach, plenty of water, sunscreen and tape for your
fingers if you are keen; harness, climbing shoes, ropes and helmet are provided. For Railay day trips, bring a dry bag for the boat.

What is a day at Railay actually like?

A Railay day trip is an adventure in itself. You cross by boat to a beach with no road access, where towering limestone walls rise
straight from the sand. Your guide sets up top-ropes on routes graded for your level, fits your harness and shoes, and coaches you up
— with the sea glittering below and often long-tailed macaques watching from the trees. Between climbs you rest on the beach. Even
if you only manage a couple of routes, standing at the base of those cliffs and looking up is worth the trip, and the sense of
achievement at the top of your first climb is hard to beat.
