An e-foil is an electric surfboard with an underwater wing (hydrofoil) that lifts you silently above the surface as you glide, controlled by a handheld throttle. It is one of Phuket’s newest watersports, done on calm, flat water. We arrange e-foil sessions and beginner coaching from our family-run, TAT-licensed shop in Chalong (licence No. 34/03373).

What is an e-foil and how does it feel?
An e-foil is a battery-powered board with a mast and wing beneath it. As you build a little speed, the wing generates lift and
the whole board rises clear of the water, so you appear to fly a foot above the surface in near silence — no engine noise, no
wake, no waves needed. You control the speed with a wireless hand throttle. Guests describe the sensation as closer to flying or
snowboarding on air than to any other watersport.
Why choose an e-foil over a jet ski?
Here is the honest comparison guests come in asking about. A jet ski is fast, loud and splashy —
instant adrenaline. An e-foil is the opposite: quiet, clean, electric and strangely meditative. Because it is silent and makes no
wake, it is gentle on the bay and on other beachgoers, and there is none of the fuel smell or noise. The trade-off is that it takes
a little longer to learn — but the payoff is a smooth, almost magical glide rather than a bouncy blast.
What conditions and time of day are best?
Flat, calm water is your friend, so early mornings are ideal before the day’s breeze picks up chop. That also
makes the dry season (November to April) generally smoother, though a sheltered bay can be glassy at dawn in any month. We book early
slots wherever we can, and we will move your session if the water is too rough to learn safely — you learn far faster on a
mirror-flat surface.
Is it right for you, and what is the learning curve?
E-foiling suits anyone with reasonable balance who is comfortable in water — you do not need to be super fit, and there is
no towing or wind involved, so it is calmer on the body than kitesurfing or wakeboarding. Expect your first session to go in stages:
lying, then kneeling, then standing at low power, and finally the moment the board lifts onto the foil. A qualified instructor stays
with you, sets the power low for beginners, and the electronics have safety cut-offs. Bring swimwear, a rash guard, reef-safe
sunscreen and water; a vest is provided.
How do you book, and what pairs well?
Tell us your date and experience level and we will confirm a session and quote that day’s price. If you would rather have the
loud, fast version, see the jet ski; for a wind-powered glide, kitesurfing. Browse

How does the technology make it beginner-friendly?
The clever part of an e-foil is the electronics. The wireless throttle lets an instructor cap your top speed while you learn, so you
build up power gradually instead of being flung about, and the battery-and-motor setup means constant, predictable propulsion — no
waiting for a wave or a gust. Modern boards have safety cut-offs that kill the motor if you fall, and stabilised wings that make the
first “flight” onto the foil smoother than it looks. That combination is why people with no board-sport background can, in a
single guided session, go from lying down to gliding silently above the water — a genuinely futuristic feeling.
Why book through us?
E-foils are premium, delicate machines, and you want a reputable operator with well-maintained gear and a real instructor, not a
cheap unbriefed rental. As a family-run, TAT-licensed shop in Chalong we arrange sessions with operators we trust, on calm sheltered
water, and we will book you an early slot for the flattest conditions and best chance of success. No online pre-payment — we hold
your session and you settle simply. Message us on WhatsApp with your date and experience and we will quote today’s price.
Insider tips from our Chalong shop
What makes an e-foil session go well:
- Book the earliest slot of the day — flat, glassy water makes learning far faster.
- Expect to progress in stages: lying, kneeling, then standing at low power before you foil.
- Reasonable balance matters more than fitness; there is no towing or wind to fight.
- Choose a reputable operator with well-maintained boards, not the cheapest rental — that is what we arrange.
- Wear a rash guard, reef-safe sunscreen and secure any phone; a vest is provided.
- Want loud and fast instead? A jet ski is the opposite kind of thrill.
Frequently asked questions
What is an e-foil?
An e-foil is an electric surfboard with an underwater wing that lifts the board above the surface as you glide, controlled by a handheld throttle. It is silent, makes no wake and needs no waves or wind.
Is an e-foil easier or harder than a jet ski?
An e-foil takes a little longer to learn than a jet ski, but the reward is a smooth, silent glide rather than a fast, splashy ride. A jet ski gives instant adrenaline; an e-foil is quiet and meditative.
What is the best time of day to e-foil?
Early mornings are best because the water is flattest before the day’s breeze creates chop. Calm, glassy water makes learning much faster, so we book early slots where possible.
Do I need to be fit or experienced to try e-foiling?
No. You need reasonable balance and to be comfortable in water. There is no towing or wind, so it is gentle on the body. An instructor sets the power low for beginners and stays with you.
Is e-foiling safe?
Yes, with a qualified instructor. The power is kept low for beginners, the electronics have safety cut-offs, and you wear a buoyancy vest. Sessions are run on calm, sheltered water.
