Khao Sok Safari – Bangkeaw Adventure

Khao Sok Safari - Bangkeaw Adventure

The Khao Sok Safari is a jungle-and-lake adventure to Khao Sok National Park, departing Phuket, arranged by our licensed family shop in Chalong. Choose a one-day trip or an overnight stay: rainforest walks, canoeing, elephant camps and a long-tail boat across the emerald Cheow Lan Lake, framed by towering limestone karsts. It’s the mainland-nature counterpart to Phuket’s island days.

Why swap a beach day for the jungle?

Here’s what we tell guests who have already done an island tour or two. Phuket’s sea days are wonderful, but Khao Sok is a completely different Thailand — one of the oldest rainforests on earth, thick with limestone mountains, and centred on the jaw-dropping Cheow Lan Lake where cliffs rise straight out of jade-green water. After a few days of boats and beaches, a morning of birdsong, jungle air and a long-tail gliding across a still lake is the reset most travellers didn’t know they needed.

Be honest with yourself about the drive, though. Khao Sok is on the mainland, so pick-ups are early (around 06:00) and it’s a long day door-to-door. That’s exactly why many guests choose the overnight option — you stay in a raft house or bungalow, catch the lake at its calmest in the morning, and skip doing the whole journey in one exhausting stretch.

What are the trip options?

We arrange several versions so you can match the trip to your energy and time:

  • Khao Sok 1 Day — temple visit, an elephant camp, a riverside lunch, canoeing on the river and a cave stop, back in Phuket the same evening.
  • Khao Sok Lake 1 Day — the highlight version: long-tail boat to the “Thailand Guilin” karst scenery on Cheow Lan Lake, swimming, canoeing and a raft-house lunch.
  • Jungle Safari 2 Days 1 Night — canoeing and swimming on day one, then a guided jungle trek inside the national park on day two, with an overnight in a bungalow.
  • Lake Explorer 2 Days 1 Night — stay in a floating raft house on the lake, with an early-morning wildlife safari by long-tail to spot the park’s animals.

Not sure which fits? Tell us how many days you have and whether you want the lake, the trek, or both, and we’ll steer you to the right program.

What will you actually do and see?

Depending on the program, the day mixes cultural and nature stops: cave temples such as the Monkey Cave and the “Heaven and Hell” cave, an elephant camp visit, a delicious Thai riverside or raft lunch, canoeing on calm water, jungle trekking with a guide, and the star attraction — the long-tail boat ride across Cheow Lan Lake beneath sheer limestone cliffs. On the overnight trips, dawn is prime time for spotting wildlife along the shoreline.

When is the best time to go?

Khao Sok is beautiful year-round, but it’s a rainforest, so expect it to be greener and wetter than the coast. The drier months (roughly December to April) make trekking and lake trips most comfortable, while the green season brings fuller waterfalls and lush jungle but muddier trails and the chance of rain. The lake tends to be glassiest early in the morning, which is another reason the overnight trips shine. Message us and we’ll tell you honestly how conditions are looking for your dates.

Is this trip right for you?

It suits nature lovers, families and couples who want a change from the beach and don’t mind an early start. The lake day and overnight trips are the most rewarding. It’s less ideal for anyone who can’t manage an early pick-up and a long transfer, or who dislikes walking on uneven jungle trails on the trekking programs. The national park fee is not included and is paid locally, as it is for every operator. Prefer to stay on the water near Phuket instead? See our island tours.

What should you bring?

Light quick-dry clothes, walking shoes or sandals with grip, insect repellent, swimwear and a towel, a hat and sunscreen, and a dry bag for your phone. For overnight trips, pack an overnight bag and a light layer for the cooler evening on the lake. Cash for the national park fee. Come by our shop on Chalong Circle (TAT licence No. 34/03373) and we’ll help you plan the packing list.

Frequently asked questions

Should I do Khao Sok as a day trip or stay overnight?

A day trip works if time is short, but it means an early start and a long drive both ways. The overnight option lets you enjoy the lake at its calmest in the morning and is far less tiring — most guests who stay over are glad they did.

What’s the difference between the jungle and lake programs?

The lake programs centre on a long-tail boat ride across Cheow Lan Lake with its dramatic cliffs. The jungle programs add guided rainforest trekking inside the national park. Some 2-day trips combine both.

Will I see wildlife?

Khao Sok is home to a rich variety of birds and animals, and the early-morning safari on the overnight trips gives the best chance of spotting them along the lakeshore. Sightings are never guaranteed in the wild, but the setting is spectacular regardless.

How much does the Khao Sok trip cost?

Prices vary by program and season, so we don’t post a fixed figure. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and which trip interests you for today’s best price and what’s included.

Is the national park fee included?

No, the national park fee is paid locally and is separate from the trip cost. This is standard for all Khao Sok operators. We’ll tell you what to expect when you enquire.
