Why three islands most tourists never see?

Everyone leaves Phuket pointed at Phi Phi. This boat turns the other way — south to the Racha islands, where the water is just as clear and the beaches hold a fraction of the people. Raya Noi in particular has no resorts and no crowds: Pirates Beach is the kind of empty white-sand cove people think no longer exists near Phuket. Add Raya Yai’s snorkeling reefs and a pass by private-island Maiton — the stretch of sea where resident dolphins are most often spotted — and you get the quiet-luxury day without the luxury markup.

How does the day run?

  • 08.30: Welcome at SeaStar pier, Laem Nga — snacks and drinks while you check in and collect snorkel gear.
  • 09.00: Speedboat to Raya Noi Island.
  • 10.00: Pirates Beach: swim, snorkel, paddle board or canoe, or hike to the viewpoint for a stunning look over the bay.
  • 11.00: Snorkeling at Banana Bay, Raya Noi — corals and shoals of colorful fish.
  • 12.00: Cross to Raya Yai Island.
  • 12.30: Lunch on Raya Yai, then beach time.
  • 14.00: Snorkeling at Raya Yai’s snorkel point.
  • 15.00: Cruise toward Maiton Island watching for dolphins — sightings are common but wild.
  • 16.00–16.30: Return to Laem Nga pier and transfer to your hotel.

The program can change with weather and tide — the captain always picks the sheltered side.

Is this tour right for you?

Couples and photographers chasing empty beaches, snorkelers who want reef variety (three different snorkel spots in one day), and returning Phuket visitors who have done Phi Phi and want the opposite experience. The open-water legs are longer than a Coral Island hop, so pack seasickness tablets if you are sensitive.

Want Raya with a shorter day? The Raya Yai Island full day tour keeps it to one island, and the Raya Yai plus Coral Island combo pairs it with Phuket’s nearest island instead.

What should you bring?

Swimwear worn from the hotel, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, hat, dry bag, and walking sandals for the Pirates Beach viewpoint hike — it is short but rocky, and the photo from the top is worth it. Cash for extras. Leave valuables at the hotel.

Honest advice from our counter in Chalong

The Racha islands’ trump card is season-proofing: their bays hold clear, swimmable water even in the green season months when trips further afield get cancelled, which is why we quietly steer May-to-October guests here. Dolphins near Maiton are genuinely common — but they are wild, so book the day for the islands and treat fins in the water as the encore. Frequently asked questions

Are dolphin sightings guaranteed at Maiton?

No — they are wild animals. The waters off Maiton Island are where resident dolphins are most often seen, and this route passes through them, but we sell the trip on the islands and count dolphins as a bonus.

What is Pirates Beach like?

An undeveloped white-sand beach on Raya Noi with no resorts, clear shallow water, paddle boards and canoes, and a short viewpoint hike above the bay. It is the emptiest beach on any of our southern routes.

How many snorkeling stops are there?

Three: Banana Bay at Raya Noi, the Raya Yai snorkel point, plus free swimming and snorkeling off Pirates Beach in the morning.

Does this trip run in the low season?

Usually yes — the Racha islands keep clear, sheltered water year-round, which makes this one of the most reliable trips from May to October. Weather can still adjust the program on the day.
