3 Days 2 Night Trip – Surin Islands by Speedboat – SeaStar

This is a three-day, two-night Surin Islands snorkelling trip by SeaStar speedboat, departing from Namkhem Marina with hotel transfer from Phuket or Khao Lak. Over three days you reach far more of Surin Islands National Park’s reefs — including sites accessed by longtail boat — and stay two nights in park accommodation. What do the three days look like?

The published SeaStar itinerary runs like this (times may shift with weather and tide):

Day 1

• 08:00 — Check in and collect your snorkelling gear.
• 09:00 — Depart Namkhem pier for the Surin Islands by speedboat.
• 10:20 — Arrive at the national park. Snorkel at Chong Kad Channel, visit the Moken sea-gypsy village, or relax on Mai Ngam beach.
• 12:00 — Lunch in the national park canteen.
• 13:30 — Meet your guide, check in to your accommodation, then relax on Mai Ngam beach.
• 16:30 — Meet at the ‘200 metres meeting point’. Hike to Kra Ting bay for the sunset, or free time on the beach.
• 19:00 — Dinner provided by the national park, then relax.

Day 2

• 08:00 — Breakfast at the national park canteen.
• 09:30 — Snorkel at Pakkhad bay by longtail boat.
• 12:00 — Lunch at the national park canteen.
• 13:30 — Snorkel at Hin Kong and Ko Stork by longtail boat.
• 18:00 — Dinner provided by the national park, then relax — or join an optional night nature study to watch chicken crabs and other nocturnal species.

Day 3

• 08:00 — Breakfast at the national park canteen.
• 09:00 — Swim and snorkel at Mai Ngam beach, then prepare for departure.
• 12:00 — Lunch at the national park canteen.
• 13:30 — Snorkel at Bon Bay or Mae Yai Bay, then Tao Bay for coral and colourful fish.
• 15:30 — Depart the Surin Islands.
• 17:00 — Arrive at Namkhem pier and transfer to your accommodation.

Is this trip right for you?

It suits keen snorkellers, underwater photographers and nature lovers who want maximum reef time and access to the further sites, and who are happy with simple island living. It is the most rewarding of the three Surin options if the reef is your priority.

It is not for travellers who want resort comfort, are badly prone to seasickness on the long crossing, or only want a quick taste of the islands — the 1 day or 2 day trips fit that better. Note that Surin Islands National Park normally closes during the monsoon, roughly mid-May to mid-October, so this trip only runs in the open season; ask us to confirm this season’s dates.

When should you go, and what should you bring?

Go in the open season (roughly mid-October to mid-May) for the calmest water and best visibility. For two nights on the island, pack swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, a dry bag, a light layer for crossings and cool evenings, insect repellent, a torch for the night walk, personal toiletries and medication, and motion-sickness tablets to take before boarding. Bring your own mask if you have one you trust, and cash for extras, as there are no shops on the islands.
