Elephant Scenery Phuket is a no-riding, mahout-family elephant park, booked through our licensed Chalong agency. Run by a local mahout family, it’s a hands-on half-day where you dress as a mahout, feed and walk with the elephants, share a mud spa and pool bath, and even cook Thai dishes together. It’s about time with the animals and their carers — no riding, no shows — with hotel transfer arranged on request.

What is a “mahout for a day” experience really like?

This is what makes this park different from a quick bathing stop, and it’s the bit guests tell us stayed with them. You’re not just visiting elephants — you step into a mahout’s shoes for a morning. You dress in traditional mahout clothes, learn a few words of the “elephant language” the carers use, and are taught how to approach and read the animals before you touch them. Then you prepare their food — vitamin balls and fruit baskets — feed them, and simply observe how each elephant behaves.

Crucially, it’s a no-riding experience run by a mahout family who live with these elephants. You walk alongside them rather than on them, make your own mud “marks” and scrub their skin, then bathe and brush them in the pool or cool off together under a giant rain shower. Because the people teaching you are the animals’ daily carers, the day feels personal rather than staged. Which program should you choose?

There are three formats, from fullest to shortest:

• Program A — the complete day: mahout dress-up, feeding and observing, a walk with the elephants, mud spa, pool bath and rain shower, plus a Thai cooking session (you make Pad Thai and a coconut-pudding dessert, Kanom Krok), a Thai buffet, a DIY elephant-magnet souvenir and a Polaroid photo to take home.
• Program B — the same elephant activities and buffet, with the souvenir and photo, but a lighter schedule without the full cooking class.
• Program C — a focused visit: dress up, feed and observe, then design your own finish — either bathing and brushing in the pool, or the giant rain shower.

If you want the full cultural day with cooking, choose A. If you mainly want quality time with the elephants, B or C is plenty. Tell us your group and we’ll help you pick.

Is it right for you?

It’s a lovely choice for families, couples and anyone who wants close, gentle contact with elephants without riding, plus a taste of Thai cooking and culture. It’s hands-on and you’ll get muddy and wet, so it’s not for anyone hoping to stay clean or dry. Guests with limited mobility should message us first — the ground is natural and slippery around the pool.

What should you bring?

Wear a swimsuit under quick-dry clothes you don’t mind staining, bring water shoes or old sandals with grip, a towel and a dry change of clothes, plus sunscreen and insect repellent. Leave valuables at the hotel — mud and phones don’t mix.
