Why is it called James Bond Island?

In 1974, The Man with the Golden Gun put a small Thai island on screens worldwide: Khao Phing Kan, with the needle-shaped limestone tower of Ko Tapu standing just offshore. It played the secret lair of Bond’s rival, the assassin Scaramanga — and the nickname never left. Half a century on, the “needle” is still one of the most photographed rocks in Asia, and this speedboat tour is the straightforward, well-priced way we send most guests to see it.

Local truth from our counter: the Bond connection gets you there, but the bay keeps you. Between the caves, the mangroves and the stilt village, the famous photo stop is maybe the fourth-best moment of the day.

What does the day look like?

Times and order are approximate — captains sequence stops around tides and traffic in the bay.

  • 07:30–08:30 — Pickup from your hotel.
  • Departure from Ao Po pier to Hong Island for canoeing beneath its famous limestone walls, then sightseeing at Panak Island.
  • Explore Ice Cream Cave — the most important cave in Phang Nga Bay, with large stalactites, stalagmites and resident bats.
  • Lunch at a floating restaurant on Koh Panyee, the Muslim fishing village on stilts, with free time to wander after eating.
  • Visit James Bond Island and Khao Phing Kan.
  • Relaxing and swimming at Naka Island.
  • 16:00 — Arrival at Ao Po pier and transfer back to your hotel.

What’s included — and what isn’t?

Included: round-trip hotel transfer from the free pickup zone, injury insurance, canoeing with a professional paddler, coffee and tea at the pier, soft drinks, water and fruit on board, lunch, life jacket, and an English-speaking guide.

Not included: the Ao Phang Nga National Park fee (paid in cash during the tour) and transfers from hotels outside the free zone. Zones and fees change, so tell us where you are staying when you message us and we will confirm your exact pickup arrangement and the current park fee — no surprises on the day.

Please note: the operator does not accept pregnant women, children under 1 year old, or guests over 70 on this speedboat tour. If that rules you out, don’t worry — the James Bond big-boat cruise or the longtail boat version are gentler alternatives we recommend often.

Is this tour right for you?

This is the balanced, no-frills classic: every headline sight of Phang Nga Bay in one day at a fair pace. The bay is sheltered water, so even the speedboat legs stay comfortable — seasickness is rarely an issue here. It is not the pick if you want a party deck or a luxury yacht; for that, see the Ombre sunset yacht daytrip.

What should you bring?

Swimwear under your clothes, towel, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and a dry bag for your phone — the canoe ride will splash. Bring a light cover-up for the Koh Panyee village and cash for the national park fee. Thai citizens pay a lower park rate; bring Thai ID for verification and mention it when booking.
