Rafting at Bangkeaw is a full-day white water adventure in the Phang Nga valley north of Phuket, arranged by our licensed Chalong agency. The core is a 5 km Level II–III rafting run, with a monkey-temple stop, Thai lunch, a zipline flying fox and a waterfall — and optional add-ons of elephant trekking and ATV riding. Pick-up is around 07.00–08.00 and you’re back in the evening, roughly 18.00–18.30.

How fit do you actually need to be?
This is the question we’d rather you ask us before you book than discover on the river, so here’s the honest answer. White water rafting is more physical than a lot of travellers expect. You’ll be paddling on command, bracing yourself in a moving boat, and occasionally scrambling in and out over slippery rocks. You don’t need to be an athlete — the guide steers and does the heavy work — but you do need a reasonable level of everyday fitness, working arms and shoulders, and the ability to hold on and follow instructions quickly.
Be straight with us if any of these apply: back or neck problems, recent surgery, heart conditions, pregnancy, or a real fear of water. The river bounces you around, and a Level II–III run in the green season can be genuinely lively. Non-swimmers can still take part — you wear a life jacket and helmet throughout — but you must be comfortable being splashed and briefly in the water. If rafting sounds like too much, the gentler bamboo float on our Bamboo Rafting – Bangkeaw Adventure is a calmer alternative, and we’ll happily point you there.
What’s in each package?
Every option starts with hotel pick-up around 07.00–08.00, a stop at Suwankuha (the monkey cave temple), the 5 km rafting run, a Thai lunch, a zipline flying fox and time to relax at a waterfall, returning about 18.00–18.30. The difference is what you bolt on:
- R1 — rafting only, plus the temple, lunch, flying fox and waterfall.
- R2 — adds 30 minutes of elephant trekking.
- R3 — adds a 30-minute ATV ride.
- R4 — the full combo: rafting, elephant trekking and ATV.
An honest word on the elephant add-on: the trekking element is a short ride. If you’d rather not ride, tell us — we can talk you through no-riding elephant options as a family-run shop that would rather match you to the right day.
Who is this day for?
It’s for travellers who want a proper adrenaline day and are fit enough to enjoy the rapids, plus anyone building a big combo (R4) with ATV and elephants. It’s a long day with a drive each way and a physical main event, so it’s less suited to very young children, frail travellers or anyone who’d prefer to stay dry and relaxed.
When should you go, and what should you bring?
The rapids are best in the green season (roughly May to November), when rain lifts the river. Wear a swimsuit under quick-dry clothes and strap-on sandals or old trainers — loose flip-flops vanish in the current. Bring a dry change and towel for the drive back, plus sunscreen, insect repellent and a waterproof pouch or leave your phone in the vehicle.
