This Sport Fishing tour is a full-day trolling trip from Chalong Pier in Phuket to Racha Yai (Raya Yai) Island, about 18 km south, arranged by our licensed Chalong agency. The warm Andaman Sea holds sailfish, black marlin, billfish and tuna, with wahoo, barracuda and mackerel more common from late May to November. Fishing gear, buffet lunch, snorkel gear, guide and insurance are included.

Will you get seasick — and who is this trip not for?

Here’s the honest talk we have with every fishing guest before they book, because a full day offshore is a real commitment. You’re on the open Andaman for around eight hours, and while trolling means the boat keeps moving (which actually helps most people), the swell around Racha Yai can build in the afternoon. If you know you’re prone to motion sickness, this is not a trip to “wing it” — take a tablet the night before and again in the morning, sit low and central, watch the horizon, and eat a light breakfast rather than nothing.

Who should think twice? Anyone with a bad back (fighting a big fish is physical), pregnant travellers, and families with very young children who won’t last a full day at sea. If a gentle half-day on flat water is more your speed, tell us and we’ll suggest something calmer. We’d rather match you to the right day than sell you a queasy one.

When is the fishing actually good?

Guests always ask which month is best. Billfish like sailfish and marlin show through much of the year, while late May to November — the monsoon months — often brings wahoo, barracuda and mackerel into the mix. The trade-off is weather: monsoon days can be choppier, and on rough mornings the captain may adjust the route for safety. Sea conditions in Phuket change day to day, so message us close to your date and we’ll tell you honestly what the water is doing.

What does the day look like?

• 07.00–08.00 — Hotel pick-up.
• 08.30 — Departure from Chalong Pier, trolling on the way out to Racha Yai Island.
• Buffet lunch served on board, with optional time to swim and snorkel.
• Bottom fishing, then trolling back towards Chalong Bay.
• 16.30 — Arrive at Chalong Pier and transfer back to your hotel.

Fishing equipment, an English-speaking guide, mask, snorkel and life jacket, injury insurance, lunch and refreshments are all included.

What should you bring?

Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat (there’s little shade for hours), a light long-sleeve layer, sunglasses, a swimsuit for the snorkel stop, a towel, any motion-sickness tablets you need, and a waterproof bag for your phone. Soft-soled shoes only. Bring a little cash for anything extra on board.
